The Ansett Flying Boat Services Short S.25 Sunderland Mk 5 VH-BRF 'Islander' was withdrawn from service, having flown its final Sydney - Lord Howe Island - Sydney service. It had flown a total of 6,142 hours with 750 trips to Lord Howe.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBP 'John Macarthur' was rolled out at Melbourne (Tullamarine) in the airline's new 'Australian' livery. It was the last aircraft to be repainted.
