The Australian National Airways Douglas DC-4-1009 VH-AND 'Tatana' was damaged beyond economical repair when it crashed into a drain during a heavy landing on a shortened runway at Sydney (Kingsford Smith). The aircraft was dismantled and trucked to Melbourne and scrapped.

This flight, along with the Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-76 VH-TJA were the first tri-motor aircraft to cross the Pacific Ocean since Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles Ulm accomplished this epic feat in the Fokker Tri-motor VH-USU 'Southern Cross' in 1928.
