On This Day - August 28, 1964. The Royal Australian Air Force Vickers Viscount 816, A6-435, arrived at Canberra Airport, having completed its delivery flight from the United Kingdom. It was operated by Number 34 Squadron on V.I.P. duties. |

On This Day - August 28, 1970. The Trans-Australia Airlines Vickers Viscount 816 VH-TVP 'John Gould' flew its final revenue service. This was a freighter service between Hobart and Melbourne (Essendon). The aircraft was badly damaged later that day at Melbourne (Essendon) when the port wing was struck by a low loader. The aircraft was repaired but did not return to service. It was sold in April 1971. |

The aircraft was then returned to Intrepid Aviation Partners the same day, before it was sold to TransAustralian Air Express on September 18, and reregistered as VH-VLG on September 30. |

It was then ferried from Auckland to Christchurch (New Zealand) as Flight QF6171 later that day in preparation for its return to Qantas. |
