On This Day - September 23, 1980.

The final Boeing 727-276A ordered new by Trans-Australia Airlines in December 1970, arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine), having completed its delivery flight from the United States. This aircraft, VH-TBR 'Bert Hinkler' was routed via Christchurch as a 'flag-waving' exercise to promote the airline's recently announced direct jet services from Hobart to Christchurch.

The Air New South Wales Fokker F28-1018 Fellowship VH-FKD was rolled out at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) in the airline's 'Yellow Canary' livery.

On This Day - September 23, 1999.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 VH-OJH 'City of Darwin' was badly damaged when it hydroplaned off the end of the runway whilst landing at Bangkok Airport. Minor injuries were sustained by 28 passengers.

The Airbus A330-202 VH-EBF 'King Valley' operated its first revenue service for Qantas Airway following its return from lease to Jetstar Airways, operating Brisbane to Sydney (Kingsford Smith) as Flight 525.
