The Australian National Airways Douglas DC-3-232A VH-ACB 'Warana' was damaged beyond repair when it made a wheels-up forced landing some 7 km north of Melbourne (Essendon) due to engine failure shortly after take-off. It was operating the scheduled Melbourne - Sydney - Brisbane service.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EBN 'City of Parramatta' entered service, flying the 'Kangaroo Route' from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to London (Heathrow).

The Trans-Australia Airlines' Airbus A300B4-203 VH-TAA, now reregistered as D-AITA and leased to Condor Airways, Germany for seven months, departed Melbourne (Tullamarine) as Flight LH1282 on its ferry flight to Germany (Hamburg).
