On This Day - February 19, 1977. The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EAA 'Toowoomba' operated the airline's first Antarctic scenic flight to be flown from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. This flight, QF144/009, carried 140 passengers to the position 74 degrees 38 minutes south and some 1,500 kms from the South Pole. |
