This aircraft was built by built by Societe Nationale Industrielle Aerospatiale, (Aerospatiale), Toulouse, France. It was entered onto the French Aircraft Register as F-WTSB and registered to Aerospatiale. Although this airframe was designated as being a pre-production aircraft, along with its British counterpart G-BBDG, it never actually entered airline service.

It flew for the first time from Toulouse on December 6, 1973. This aircraft was used to undertake the final phase of testing and certification before the actual production aircraft were built. Tasks included aircrew training, route proving, endurance testing and technical refinementas well as acting as a test bed for production techniques.

F-WTSB carried out a flypast at the Paris Air Show on June 7, 1975 before it commenced an endurance test programme that included flights to Kaflavik, Shannon, Tangier and Dakar on June 9, 1975.

On completion of its test flying program it was withdarwn from use and stored at Chateauroux and kept in near flight readiness as a reserve aircraft from 1982 - 1985.

Its final flight from Chateauroux to Toulouse took place on April 19, 1985. The aircraft remains in the ownership of EADS (the successor to Aerospatiale) and has been parked outside the Airbus Factory at Toulouse since 1985. In 2012 plans were set to refurbish the aircraft and place it on permanent display in a specially built facility to Toulouse Blagnac Airport.

It was cancelled from the French Aircraft Register - date unknown.

At the time of its retirement F-WTSB had flown a total of 909 hours 52 minutes with 423 cycles. It had flown 247 supersonic cycles for a total time of 339 hours 25 minutes supersonic hours.
