This aircraft was built by The Boeing Company, Everett, Seattle, Washington - 1989 First flown with the Boeing test registration at Everett (Paine Field) - October 03, 1989 Entered onto the New Zealand Aircraft Register as ZK-NBS - December 14, 1989 Registered to Air New Zealand Limited, Auckland, New Zealand Handed over to Air New Zealand at Everett (Paine Field) - December 14, 1989 Departed Everett (Paine Field) on the delivery flight to New Zealand - December 14, 1989 The aircraft had been leased to Cathay Pacific Airways due to an industrial dispute - December 15, 1989 It arrived at Auckland on completion of the delivery flight - December 16, 1989 Ferried Auckland - Hong Kong for lease to Cathay Pacific in a hybrid livery - December 17, 1989 It operated its first revenue service Hong Kong - Bangkok - Singapore - December 22, 1989 Returned to Air New Zealand at Auckland at the end of the lease - February 01, 1991 The aircraft was named 'Mataatua' It was named after one of the canoes that brought the Maori people to New Zealand from Hawaii around 1350 A.D. The aircraft was later named 'Bay of Islands' It operated a charter flight to Oshkosh, Wisconsin carrying aircraft enthusiasts to the EAA Convention - July 1998 It performed a series of fly-overs at the airshow before positioning to Los Angeles It was removed from the Hong Kong - London (Heathrow) route - October 28, 2006 This was due to the aircraft not having the increased oxygen system / capability required for this route Operated a two-hour test flight Auckland - Auckland - December 30, 2008 It was using a 50/50 mix of Jet-A fuel and Biofuel from the Camelina Plant in Number 1 engine Operated its final revenue service Melbourne (Tullamarine) - Auckland as NZ124 - January 07, 2009 Withdrawn from use and stored at Auckland - January 07, 2009 The aircraft had flown 88,306 hours with 11,488 cycles All Air New Zealand titles and logos were removed from the aircraft at Auckland Test flown Auckland - Auckland - May 29, 2009 Departed Auckland on the ferry flight to the United States for storage as NZ6320 - June 06, 2009 It arrived at Roswell (New Mexico) on completion of the ferry flight - June 06, 2009 Ferry route: Auckland - Los Angeles - Roswell Cancelled from the New Zealand Aircraft Register - June 17, 2009 The aircraft was broken up at Roswell - 2009 |
