The Australian National Airways Douglas DC-3-232A VH-ABR 'Kanana' (quiet), having arrived as deck cargo on the ship S.S. Clydebank at Port Melbourne on October 17, was test flown at Melbourne (Essendon) by Capt P.T.L. Taylor. It was the 3rd Douglas DC-3 to be imported into Australia.

The Tasman Empire Airways Limited Short S.25 Sandringham Mk 4 Tasman Class flying boat ZK-AMH 'R.M.A. Auckland' arrived at Auckland Harbour, having completed its delivery flight from the United Kingdom (Poole). The total flying time for the delivery flight was 87 hours.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138B VH-EBM 'City of Launceston' operated a special VIP flight from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Launceston (Tasmania), for the opening of the new airport terminal. This flight also marked the first visit to Tasmania of a Boeing 707 aircraft.
