On This Day - October 07, 1955. The Trans-Australia Airlines Vickers Viscount 720C VH-TVB 'Gregory Blaxland' set a speed record of 38 minutes for the flight between Cairns and Townsville. It then set another new speed record of 125 minutes on the next sector between Townsville and Brisbane. |

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-377 VH-CZM, having been leased to America West Airlines in October 1989 due to the protracted 'Australian pilots dispute' as N113AW, arrived at Brisbane having completed its ferry flight from the United States as Flight 'Cactus 3802' at the end of its lease. It was reregistered as VH-CZM on October 10. |

The Qantas Airways Airbus A330-303 VH-QPA 'Kununurra' was involved in a very serious mid-flight control emergency whilst operating Flight QF72 from Singapore to Perth, which resulted in the aircraft pitching down very abruptly. Unrestrained passengers were flung around the cabin during the rapid descent. |
