On This Day - June 08, 1979. The Trans-Austrlia Airlines Douglas DC-9-31 VH-TJJ 'Edmund Kennedy' was involved in an attempted armed hijack, whilst en-route from Coolangatta to Brisbane. Seaman Phillip Sillery, armed with a sawn-off shotgun entered the cockpit. He was quickly overpowered with no damage done to the aircraft. |
