The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138 VH-EBC 'City of Canberra' entered service, operating the airline's inaugural Boeing 707 passenger service, as Flight EM775 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to San Francisco via Nadi and Honolulu. It set a commercial airliner speed record on this flight for this route of 14 hours 57 minutes.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 767-238ER VH-EAK 'Townsville' was ferried from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Townsville as Flight QF7670. On arrival at Townsville, the aircraft's official naming ceremony was held. It was then ferried back to Sydney (Kingsford Smith) later that day as Flight QF7680.
