The Qantas Airways Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGT arrived at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (Everett, Paine Field) as Flight QF6022. It was the airline's 113th Boeingf airliner and its 28th Boeing 767.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 VH-OJK 'Newcastle' was badly damaged in flight when an oxygen cylinder in the forward cargo hold exploded. The aircraft was operating Flight QF30 from Hong Kong to Melbourne (Tullamarine). It diverted to Manila (Philippines) where an emergency landing was made. No injuries were sustained by those on board.
