On This Day - January 08, 1948.

The official retirement ceremony for the last Qantas Empire Airways Short S.23C Empire Class flying boat, VH-ABG 'Coriolanus' was held at Sydney (Rose Bay). 'Coriolanus' had flown over 18,500 hours and more than 2,500,000 miles during its career. Despite many requests being put forward by Qantas engineer, Mr George Roberts, to preserve this aircraft for future generations, his requests were refused by Hudson Fysh, and this historic aircraft was broken-up for scrap.
