The Ansett Airlines Boeing 727-277A VH-RMU arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United States (San Francisco, California). It was the airline's first Boeing 727 series 200 aircraft.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-338C VH-EAA 'Toowoomba' operated the airline's first Antarctic scenic flight to be flown from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. This flight, QF144/009, carried 140 passengers to the position 74 degrees 38 minutes south and some 1,500 kms from the South Pole.
