On This Day - February 13, 1977. The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-238B VH-EBA 'City of Canberra' performed the airline's inaugural 'Antarctic Scenic Charter' flight. It had been chartered by Dick Smith, to carry some 300 passengers on the 11 hour 30 minute flight to the southern polar region. The flight was under the command of Capt. A. Terrell. |
