On This Day - December 26, 1974.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Fokker F.27-6187 Friendship VH-TQT 'Thomas Mitchell' was the first commercial airliner to land at Darwin after Cyclone Tracy had hit the city the previous night. It operated Flight TN556 from Alice Springs to Darwin. This aircraft then uplifted 57 people on an evacuation flight to Brisbane.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-76 VH-TJC 'Arthur Phillip' operated its last revenue service. It was then withdrawn from use and stored at Melbourne (Tullamarine) awaiting sale. It had flown 37,982 hours with 27,836 cycles.

The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 VH-OJK 'Newcastle' departed Los Angeles (California) on its final revenue service as Flight QF12. On its arrival at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) it was withdrawn from use and prepared for its ferry flight to the United States for storage and sale.
