The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-76 VH-TJA 'James Cook' returned to service following the completion of repairs after its collision with the Canadian Pacific Airlines Douglas DC-8-63 CF-CPQ as it was taking-off on Runway 16 at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) on January 29. The CP Air DC-8 had not vacated the runway as the Boeing 727 took off, with both aircraft sustaining major damage.

The Ansett Airlines Boeing 737-277 VH-CZN operated the airline's inaugural Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Newcastle Boeing 737 service as Flight AN150.

The Trans-Australia Airlines Boeing 727-276A VH-TBL operated its last revenue service, operating Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Melbourne (Tullamarine). It was then withdrawn from service having flown 35,879 hours with 28,404 cycles. It was sold to Aeron Aviation Corporation on April 16.

The Skywest Airlines Airbus A320-231 G-BYTH arrived at Melbourne (Tullamarine) having completed its delivery flight from the United Kingdom (Manchester) as Flight TCX032. It was reregistered as VH-FNP on April 14, but remained stored at Melbourne (Tullamarine) until October 23.
