On This Day - March 07, 1954. The Ansett Airways Short S.25 Sandringham Mk 4 flying boat VH-BRC 'Beachcomber' suffered a serious accident whilst taxiing out to take-off on Sydney Harbour. The left-wing's float snapped off and the wing came close to entereing the water. A number of passengers climbed out through the upper cockpit hatch and crawled out onto the aircraft's right wing to act as a counter-balance until help arrived. |
