On This Day - January 08, 1947.

The Royal Australian Air Force Douglas C-47A-30-DL A65-13 was sold to MacRobertson-Miller Aviation Co, as a source of spare parts. It had only flown 4,121 hours. Instead it was converted to civilian airliner standards and registered as VH-MMA on October 01.

On This Day - January 08, 1948.

The official retirement ceremony for the last Qantas Empire Airways Short S.23C Empire Class flying boat, VH-ABG 'Coriolanus' was held at Sydney (Rose Bay). 'Coriolanus' had flown over 18,500 hours and more than 2,500,000 miles during its career. Despite many requests being put forward by Qantas engineer, Mr George Roberts, to preserve this aircraft for future generations, his requests were refused by Hudson Fysh, and this historic aircraft was broken-up for scrap.

The Virgin Blue Boeing 737-8FE VH-VUT 'Yabba Dabba Blue' entered service, operating Flight DJ942 from Brisbane to Sydney (Kingsford Smith).
